FAIRHOPE,
Alabama—Girl Scouts in Fairhope are making Valentine’s Day packages
for troops in Afghanistan on Feb. 3 at Fairhope United Methodist
Church.
Brownie Troop
8556 is taking one giant step to make the world a better place by
sending Girl Scout cookies, snacks and homemade Valentine’s Day
cards to a troop of 35 soldiers in Afghanistan, according to a news
release from the Girls Scouts of Southern Alabama.
The troop of
eight is excited about contributing to this cause and showing their
appreciation for service men and women, the release stated.
“We’re trying
to teach the girls that there are soldiers who put their lives on
the line to protect them and our country,” Holly Dees, troop
leader, said. “Even though we fundraise, we can use our money to
help others.”
Not only are
the girls and troop leaders excited, but Girl Scouts of Southern
Alabama Inc. is equally eager about this project, the release
stated.
“I think it’s
a wonderful thing that someone so small could be thoughtful enough
to brighten someone’s day, even though they’re so far away,” Liz
Brent, CEO of Girl Scouts of Southern Alabama, said.
The troop
will be meeting Friday afternoon and plans to ship the care
packages Saturday.
