FAIRHOPE, Ala. - Reducing garbage service to once a week and raising garbage rates to cover costs are the main topics at this week’s meeting of the city garbage advisory committee.
The committee, chaired by Councilman Mike Ford, began meeting this year to resolve several pending garbage issues.
The City Council followed the committee’s recommendation earlier this month when it decided Jan. 10 to keep the city landfill open and to allow it to increase 30 feet in height.
It was at a meeting of the garbage committee the previous week when it was decided to make the recommendation about the landfill, which was later adopted by the council.
That Jan. 5 meeting of the committee received only a few hours notice to the public, but this week’s meeting was advertised two weeks in advance.
The garbage advisory committee meets at 2 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 27, in the conference room at City Hall at 161 N. Section St.
