TUSCALOOSA—The District 7 champion Fairhope American AA (7-8 year-old) Peanut Dixie Youth All-Stars made the state championship round of their division in Tuscaloosa Tuesday with key wins including a 6-2 elimination-bracket victory over East Tuscaloosa.
They play Hartselle today in a best-of-three series with a third, "if-necessary," game Thursday.
Fairhope AL dropped their opening round to Hueytown Friday night but battled back up the bracket to meet them again Tuesday. Fairhope AL then had to beat Hueytown twice to advance to the finals and came through with back-to-back wins of 7-4 and 16-5. Hartselle advanced to the final with a semifinal win of 11-3 over Headland.
Earlier District 7 runner-up Municipal topped Cherokee 6-4 but fell to Headland 14-4 in elimination.
On Monday Fairhope beat Ozark 10-3 while Hueytown dropped East Tuscaloosa 9-2 and Headland hammered Municipal 16–5. Other Monday scores: Munford 3, AUM 1, Hartselle 2, Opelika AL 1 and Cherokee County 9, Monroe County 7.
In AAA (Minors) sub-state action at Oxford, the Fairhope team also battled back from an early loss to make the title game but fell to South East Montgomery 5-3 for the state tournament berth.
