Ex-Tide, Foley football star arrested in Gulf Shores

Posted

GULF SHORES, AL – Former Alabama and Foley High School football standout Robert Lester was arrested on a domestic violence charge by Gulf Shores Police on June 23, according to an arrest report.

Also arrested was Kala Whiteside on a charge of interfering with a domestic violence emergency call.

Police officers arrived to find a lot of damage in the apartment the couple shared at 19000 Oak Road W., or County Road 6, in Gulf Shores, the report said. Whiteside suffered injuries, but the report said a head injury was likely caused by a thrown object or falling down. She also had bruises on her leg.

According to the report, Lester was determined as the aggressor in the incident and then sought to call police. Whiteside then hid his phone and keys thus prompting the charge against her.

“Before the cellphone in the old days they would jerk the phone out of the wall,” Gulf Shores Police Sgt. Jason Woodruff said. “We would go on a call and the phone would be pulled clear out of the wall. Of course those days are over and they generally hide the phone or something.

“According to the report, Whiteside admitted to hiding the phone and Lester’s keys so he couldn’t leave.”

Lester earned three national championship rings with Alabama in 2009, 2011 and 2012. He played two years with the Carolina Panthers in the NFL but was cut on Sept. 15. He had reportedly tried out with the Kansas City Chiefs but is not currently a roster player or on the practice squad, according to a Chiefs spokesman.

The arrest report listed both Lester’s and Whiteside’s address as the Oak Road apartment, but Woodruff said Lester’s driver’s license had a Foley address.
