Jul. 25, 1936 – Oct. 13, 2025, Evelyn Vonceil Roberts Underwood, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, passed away peacefully at her home on Oct. 13, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on Jul. 25, 1936, in Foley, Alabama, Vonceil was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Florence Roberts. She grew up in Foley and graduated from Foley High School, where she met the love of her life, Donald Underwood. The two were high school sweethearts and were married on Nov. 26, 1954. Their union was a testament to enduring love, spanning more than 70 years. Vonceil was a devoted homemaker, the heart of her household, farmer's wife, and supportive military spouse. She skillfully balanced the roles of bookkeeper, caretaker, and hostess, always ensuring that her home was a place of warmth and welcome. Her love for cooking was matched only by her passion for gardening, painting and ceramics—creative pursuits that reflected her grace and artistic spirit. A woman deeply committed to her community, Vonceil was an active member of the American Legion and proudly founded the local 100 Club, providing an avenue for comradery amongst friends. She is survived by her loving husband, Donald Underwood, and their three children: Neal Underwood (Becky), Lisa Norman (Dwight), and Trudy Hesse (Stephen). Vonceil was a proud grandmother to Shellie Kichler (Nathan), Kristin Underwood, Chandi Black (Martin), Hayden Hesse, Barclay Chavous (Shauna), Emily Robertson, and Haley Underwood. She is also survived by her sister, Juanita Graham (Bob). Her legacy also lives on through her great-grandchildren: McCoy and Baylor Kichler, Jackson Black, and Callaghan Chavous. A true Southern belle, Vonceil was known for her timeless style, elegance, and grace. Whether she was hosting family gatherings, attending community events, or just stepping out for the day, she carried herself with poise and charm. She was a role model to all, exemplifying what it meant to live with strength, dignity, and love. Her unshakable faith in family, and refined spirit left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her. Services will be held on Thurs., Oct. 16th, 2025, at Pine Rest Funeral Home and Memorial Park in Foley. The family will receive visitors from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m., with a funeral service following at 10:00 a.m.
