Jack L. Evans, 70, born Aug. 17, 1939 in Wapakoneta, Ohio, died Monday. May 17, 2010, at his residence in Wapakoneta.

He retired from British Petroleum, Lima, Ohio, in 1995, as a supervisor in the chemical division.

He served in the U.S. Navy, the U.S. Army, and the Army National Guard, and served as a boy scout leader for eight years in Alabama. He was also the founder and owner of the Auglaize Antique Mall.

He was member of First United Methodist Church, Wapakoneta, and was a life member and past commander of the Alvin Metzger Post, VFW, #8445, and a charter member of the Amvets, Post #333, both of Wapakoneta. His other memberships included the American Legion Post #330 and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Aerie #691, the Roots and Shoots Garden Club, all of Wapakoneta, the Ohio Snowbirds of Alabama, and the Buckeye Farm Antiques Inc.

He served on the board of directors with the Wapakoneta Chamber of Commerce from 1992-1995, and received the Ambassador Award in 1993 from the City of Wapakoneta.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Carlyle and Bernita Knoch Evans; grandson, Brandon Evans; sister, Janet Sanders; and three brothers, Tom, Donald and Jerry Evans.

Survivors include his wife of over 26 years, Sue Graf of Wapakoneta, Ohio; son, Robert (Lisa) Evans of Elberta; four daughters, Jackie Evans of Summerdale, Nancy (Lionel) Cabbarubia of Foley, Betsy Evans of Foley and Jeanie Clevenger of Wapakoneta; two step-daughters, Tamela (Steve) Nuesmeyer of Wapakoneta and Natasha (Scott) Hengstler of Wapakoneta; seven grandchildren, Bradley (Jenny) Evans, Mallorie Evans, Nicole Cabarrubia, Jamie Cabarrubia, Alexander Cabarrubia, Daniel Eastburn and Savanah Brannon, all of Alabama; four step-grandchildren, Cindy Jurosic, Heather Wells, Christopher Wells and Kelly Wells, all of Wapakoneta; brother, James (Jenny) Evans, Washington Court House, Ohio; three sisters, Diane Talbot, Clarington, Ohio, Connie Burgess of Wapakoneta and Patti (Don) Shroyer of Wapakoneta; sister-in-law, Sandi Evans of Wapakoneta.

Funeral services were held Thursday May 20 at Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home, Wapakoneta, with Pastor R.J. Davis officiating. Burial with military rites conducted by the Wapakoneta VFW, followed at Greenlawn Cemetery, Wapakoneta. Visitation was held Wednesday, May 19 at the funeral home.

The family requests memorial donations be made to St. Rita’s Hospice.
