Ethel Louise Hess, age 89, peacefully departed her earthbound life surrounded by her loving family in her home in Daphne, Alabama on Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2022, at 12:03 p.m.
Ethel was born in Kemper County, Mississippi on February 5, 1933, to Sara Elizabeth (Sciples) & Herman Howard Watkins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Robert "Bob" Southern, Jr. and subsequently by her second husband, Thomas E. Hess.
She is survived by her loving children, Gail Moutz of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Susan Jennings of Austin, Texas, Robbie (Edwina) Southern, of Lucedale, Mississippi, Alan (Pam) Southern, of Daphne, Alabama., twenty-three grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren, her brother, Ray (Linda) Watkins, of Georgetown, Texas, sister-in-law Judy (Southern) (David) Hester, of Gautier, Mississippi, sister-in-law Pat Stork (Southern), of Pascagoula, Mississippi, sister-in-law Margaret Southern of Moss Point, Mississippi., and many surrogate family members throughout Daphne including those from her beloved church, Christ the King Catholic Church, along with her YMCA "Silver Sneakers" family, and her Lake Forest friends and neighbors, who adored her.
Services will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church in Daphne, Alabama on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2022, beginning with visitation at 10:00 a.m. to be followed by mass at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Kindred Hospice, 9805 Millwood Circle, Suite D, Daphne, AL 36527, can be made in Ms. Hess's name.
