Hollywood isn't the only place for canine stars to shine.

Right here in Baldwin County, your dog could become the next big thing in theater, captivating audiences as the lovable "Sandy" in Eastern Shore Repertory Theatre's (ESRT) upcoming production of "Annie JR." This fall, ESRT is giving local dogs the chance to step into the spotlight, with open auditions set for Sept. 14 in Daphne.

ESRT is searching for a well-trained, house-friendly dog that not only loves children but also thrives in the spotlight. According to a news release, the perfect "Sandy" should know basic commands like sit, stay and come and must be confident performing in front of an audience.

Auditions are scheduled for 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Nicholson Center, 1410 Captain O'Neal Drive in Daphne, across from May Day Park. Parking will be available in the May Day parking lot. Dogs auditioning must be leashed at all times, fully vaccinated and will be asked to perform basic commands. If your dog has any special skills, be sure to highlight them during the audition.

The selected dog must be available for evening rehearsals on Oct. 28, Nov. 4-6, and for field trip performances during the day on Nov. 7 and 8. Public performances are scheduled for Friday, Nov. 8, Saturday, Nov. 9, and Sunday, Nov. 10, with additional public appearances possibly required prior to the show.
