The Eastern Shore Choral Society will begin rehearsals for its winter concerts on Monday, Aug. 19 at Fairhope United Methodist Church's Wesley Hall, located at 155 S. Section St. at the corner of Morphy Avenue and Section Street. Registration and distribution of music will begin at 6 p.m. with actual rehearsal starting at 7. People who enjoy performing quality choral music are invited to join the group. There are no auditions and the group rehearses Monday nights from 7 to 9. The membership fee per semester is $50 (music is provided) and specific concert attire is required of all singing members except for students who are exempt from the membership and attire requirements.
The winter concerts will be presented at Fairhope United Methodist Church on Thursday, Dec. 5 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 8 at 3 p.m. Included in this season's program will be “Missa Festiva” by John Leavitt and several popular carols.
Since 2011, The Choral Society has been under the direction of Mary Katherine Kilgore, who received her Bachelor of Music degree in organ performance from Valdosta State University. She studied voice, opera and choral conducting at Clayton College and State University and master of music studies in choral conducting at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. In addition to her experience as a soloist, choral conductor and accompanist, she has taught private voice and piano lessons for more than 16 years.
