Elberta Police offer April Amnesty for municipal court warrants

Posted

The Elberta Police Department and Elberta Municipal Court are giving residents a chance to resolve outstanding warrants during the month of April.

The initiative, called Amnesty April by the department, was announced last week in a news release and on the department’s Facebook page, aiming to reduce the town’s warrant backlog.

Residents with active warrants can go to Elberta Town Hall to be processed. Those with capias warrants, related to unpaid fines, will be processed and offered a new payment plan. Individuals with failing to appear warrants will be processed, released on a signature bond and assigned a new court date.

Court will be held April 13, at 2 p.m. Check-in begins at 1 p.m., allowing participants to appear before the judge and have their warrants recalled without full processing.

Warrants for other charges will result in processing at Foley Jail, followed by a scheduled court date with bond requirements and release.

Residents with questions can contact the Elberta Police Department at (251) 986-5300 or the Elberta Municipal Court at (251) 986-5995.
