Eighth-graders honored

SPANISH FORT, Ala. — Spanish Fort Middle School honored its eighth-grade standouts May 18 during its annual Honors Day reception, applauding the achievements of all 240 students in the class.

“It has been a wonderful school year, and I am very proud of all of the students’ achievements.

“I am impressed with the talent that is represented in my current eighth graders and know that they will do very well in high school,” said SFMS Principal Carol Palumbo.

Although each student was recognized during the program, several categories singled out exceptional accomplishments, including the following accolades:

The honors day program was concluded with the presentation of a video scrapbook, and a PTA-sponsored reception followed for faculty, students and guests.

Palumbo said Tuesday she was awed by the affectionate place SFMS holds in the hearts of its departing upperclassmen.

“Today, the last day of school, I find that many of our 8th graders are truly sad as they say—really—that they will miss SFMS. Many, although, they could have checked out following their exams, have elected to stay until the end of the day. I wish all of them the very best,” Palumbo said.. This is what I was worried about.
