FOLEY, Ala. — Two men arrested in connection with a drug search last week that resulted in the shooting death of a Foley homeowner and a gunshot wound to a Foley police officer remain in the Baldwin County Corrections Center.

Michael Woods, 51, and Calvin Kimmerle, 46, were arrested by Foley police after authorities attempted to serve a search warrant at 2500 East Ashford Park Dr., the residence of Woods’ parents where Michael Woods lived. While attempting to serve the search warrant, Michael Woods’ father, Robert, 77, was shot and killed by officers after he opened fire on them with a handgun. Ofc. Randy Stallworth was shot in the leg during the melee.

Michael Woods was arrested on May 13, the day of the search warrant and shooting. A Foley Police Department press release on May 15 said “two medium sized bags of marijuana and drug paraphernalia” were recovered from Michael Woods’ bedroom.

He was charged with first-degree unlawful possession of marijuana, a felony, and possession of drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor.

That same release said narcotics officers had been investigating Kimmerle with Michael Woods as part of a “marijuana and prescription narcotic distribution operation.”

Kimmerle’s address is 2520 E. Ashford Park Dr. In late April of this year, undercover officers purchased a “number of prescription narcotic pills from Kimmerle and Woods,” according to the release. “Investigators are looking into the possibility that the pills that were sold to the undercover officer were stolen from the mother of Michael Woods.”

Kimmerle was arrested on May 13 on a warrant of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance. According to the Corrections Center Web site, Kimmerle’s bond is set at $5,000 on the possession of a controlled substance charge, while Woods has a total bond of $510,000 on three distribution of a controlled substance charges ($125,000 each), first-degree possession of marijuana ($125,000), and possession of drug paraphernalia ($10,000).

Randy Stallworth had surgery to remove the bullet from his leg on Friday and is recuperating.
