Calling all dog owners! Do you have the cutest pup or the best dressed dog? The Kiwanis Club of Bay Minette hopes to see you and your four-legged fashionista at the Dogs on Hand and Paw Pageant Sept. 24.

The Dogs on Hand event at Blackburn Park promises to be a fun-filled day for the whole family.

"We are having this event for the community, the North Baldwin area and the kids," said Courtney Willcox. "We will have games and different things for the kids to enjoy and sell hot dogs."

The Kiwanis Club plans to use the funds raised at the Dogs on Hand event to purchase hydration stations for parks in Bay Minette. Willcox said the club has raised enough money through other fundraisers to purchase two hydration stations, but they could buy a third if they raise enough money. The hydration stations, designed to refill water bottles, will be placed in different parks in Bay Minette.

The club is looking forward to seeing how creative pet owners will get for the Paw Pageant. Dog owners can register their four-legged friends for $15 at a chance to win prizes for the most creative and best dressed. The Bay Minette Police K-9 handlers and firefighters will be judging the pageant.

"I imagine we will see some Alabama and Auburn type themes, but there is no limit. Be as creative as you want to be," Willcox said. "This is our first event, and we hope to have this going on every year. We are just hoping for some creative animal owners. We are excited."

Entry into the Dogs on Hand event is one pair of new socks. Willcox said the socks collected will kick off the Kiwanis Club of Bay Minette's Socktober event. Each year, the club collects new socks and undergarments and distributes them to the elementary schools in Bay Minette. Socktober runs from the beginning of September until the end of October.

"Our whole purpose as a club is to service the youth of North Baldwin county. We raise money throughout the year, putting on different events like Socktober," Willcox said. "All the money we raise and collect goes back to the community."

Those interested in being a vendor at the event or to register for the Paw Pageant can contact Courtney Willcox at (205) 767-7174. The vendor fee is $25 and Paw Pageant entry fee is $15. Paw Pageant participants can also register on the day of the event.

The Dogs on Hand and Paw Pageant event takes place Saturday, Sept. 24, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Blackburn Park in Bay Minette.
