Dream On Vol. 4 to bring classic rock favorites to Orange Beach stage in August

Classic rock hits from the 1970s through the 1990s will take center stage later this summer as the Expect Excellence Music Department presents “Dream On Vol. 4” at the Orange Beach Performing Arts Center.

The annual tribute show will feature musicians and singers from across the Gulf Coast performing a 20-song set list packed with well-known rock radio favorites. According to a news release, organizers said the production is designed for longtime fans who remember the songs when they were first released as well as younger audiences discovering the music for the first time.

The show includes nods to classic hits such as “Juke Box Hero,” “Purple Rain” and “Bohemian Rhapsody.”

“Dream On Vol. 4” is scheduled for Aug. 27-29 at the Orange Beach Performing Arts Center, 23908 Canal Road. All three performances begin at 7 p.m., with doors opening one hour before showtime.

Performers have been rehearsing since early June to prepare the production, which features a 23-member cast of dancers, vocalists and instrumentalists.

“We had some extremely talented folks come out for auditions,” Expect Excellence Music Manager Caleb Pittman said in a news release. “This was honestly one of the easiest years, when it came to casting. Everyone fits their parts so well. I can’t wait to see this cast hit the stage.”

Pittman said the cast has embraced the spirit of the music while preparing for the performances.

The production pays tribute to artists including Prince, Michael Jackson and Steve Perry, though Pittman acknowledged the challenge of recreating legendary performers.

“We attempt to capture the nostalgia of these songs by playing all these iconic notes and melodies and our singers provide their personal takes on the songs,” Pittman said.

He said bringing the music to life for audience members who once attended concerts by the original artists can be especially meaningful.

Pittman described the show as an opportunity for audiences to relive memorable moments from a celebrated era of music.

“Not only will you experience incredible music performed by incredible artists, but you will get to participate in all the fun!” he said.

Performing Arts Center Manager Stacie Brane said the show continues to resonate with audiences because of the lasting popularity of classic rock.

“It’s great to see how much happiness and excitement ‘Dream On’ brings to the audience members. It’s an experience you don’t want to miss out on!” Brane said.

Brane encouraged prospective attendees to purchase tickets early, particularly those with a preferred performance date.

Tickets are general admission and cost $15 plus processing fees. All ticket purchases, both online and at the box office, must be made with a credit card.

The Orange Beach Performing Arts Center is located on the eastern portion of the Orange Beach Middle/High School campus. The box office is open weekdays from 3:30 to 6 p.m. and can be reached at (251) 943-0043.
