Dr. James R. Gleaves

Dr. James R. Gleaves, 69, of Meridian, Miss. died July 20, 2013 at Rush Foundation Hospital.

Dr. Gleaves was born in Buffalo, N.Y. in 1944, and was a longtime resident of Daphne. He graduated Fairhope High School in 1962. He went on to receive a B.S. in chemistry from University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa in 1966, and earned his medical degree from the University of Alabama Birmingham Medical Center in 1970. He served a one-year internship, followed by a four-year surgical residency at Lloyd Nolan Hospital, Birmingham.

He served in the Alabama Army National Guard in the 109th Evacuation Hospital Unit where he received the rank of major. This military service was during the Vietnam era.

He was named to staff at Rush Medical Group in Meridian, Miss. for the practice of general surgery in 1976, where he practiced general surgery and was the director of the hyperbaric wound center.

He received numerous awards during his 37 years of practice.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Linda Hall Gleaves from Fairhope; brother, the Rev. Glen L. (the Rev. Donna) Gleaves of Livingston, Mont.; sister-in-law, Joyce (Gene Sr., deceased) Gleaves of Spanish Fort; brother-in-law, Philip (Polly) Hall of Titusville, Fla.; nieces and nephews, Melanie  (Greg) Morrett of Lancaster, Ky., Lea (Bill) Dickerson of Hattiesburg, Miss., Donna (Kelly) Freeman of Daphne, Gene (Christina) Gleaves Jr. of Daphne, Katie Gleaves of Salt Lake City, Utah, Philip Hall Jr., John (Paula) Hall and Mark ( Angie) Hall, all of North Little Rock, Ark., Dawn (Dennis) Jones of Twisp, Wash. and Jim Hall of Anchorage, Alaska; lifelong friends, Dr. Jimmy (Elaine) Isbell, Robert (Jan) Templin of Jacksonville, Ala. and Terry Dobson of Fairhope.

Services will be held Friday, July 26, 2013, at 3 p.m., at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Vicki Gladding and Bro. Dennis Duvall officiating.

Graveside service and burial will be Sunday, July 28, 2013, at 3 p.m., at Memory Gardens of Fairhope, with the Rev. Mark Wilson officiating.
