FAIRHOPE, Ala. — The Fairhope Volunteer Fire Department responded to an early morning fire Tuesday that damaged the interior of The Picture Show, a gift shop located at 332 Fairhope Ave.

According to FVFD Capt. Jamey Petersen, about 15 Fairhope firefighters responded to the alarm with ladder and engine trucks and two rescue vehicles. Three firefighters from the Daphne Fire Department also were called to the scene.

The fire was reported by a De La Mare Avenue resident, who saw smoke drifting from the back side of the building. The firefighters had the fire under control in 10-15 minutes, Petersen said, adding that it was an electrical fire that began somewhere in the middle or back of the building.

An apartment over the shop was empty at the time of the fire and only incurred smoke damage, he said adding that the shop to the west of The Picture Show received minor smoke damage; the business to the east was undamaged.

Cheryl Dutton is the owner of The Picture Show; William Richmond V owns the building.
