GULF SHORES, Ala. - The City of Gulf Shores officially sealed its 50 year time capsule on Thursday night at the Erie Meyer Civic Center. The capsule, which will be opened in 2057 as part of the city's centennial celebration, is only the latest phase of the city's year-long 50th anniversary celebration.

Items that were used to fill the capsule range from a telephone directory to coins from various years and even an edition of The Islander. The aluminum capsule was filled with hydrogen and stored at the city museum where it will remain until built into the corner of a municipal building behind glass for viewing.

Those in attendance at the event were treated with 50s style refreshments including ice cream Coke floats and entertainment by way of Shane Tucker's "Elvis Remembered".
