Donald Eugene Petty, 83, lovingly known by all as “Papa Don,” born in Baton Rouge and a resident of the Pine Grove community of Bay Minette, died Saturday April 19, 2014 at his residence.

He was the owner of Mac’s Body shop in Baton Rouge. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Korean War.

He was also a member of First United Methodist Church of Bay Minette.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Willie Frank (Hudnall) Petty of Pine Grove; his daughter, Rhonda Petty (Jeff) Hutchinson of Bay Minette; five grandchildren, Cole, Mayson, Jeff Jr. (Jamie), Ryan (Brook) and Kristina; nephews and nieces, Cary (Diana) Petty, Glen (Jane) Petty, Steve (Laurie) Petty, Gwen (Bob) Bowles and Cindy (Bill) Mullen; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rodney E. and Ruby Mae Kerr Petty; and a brother, Rodney E. Petty Jr.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at 1 p.m., at First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Ed Deabler and the Rev. Jeff Spicer officiating.

Burial with military honors will follow at 2:30 p.m. at the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery at Spanish Fort.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, April 22, 2014, from 11 a.m. until the 1 p.m. service at First United Methodist Church.
