DAPHNE, Ala.—An eighth-grade male student at Daphne Middle School was expelled after authorities found three 9-mm. bullets on him Wednesday while responding to a report that the student had brought a gun on campus.

“A (female) student at Daphne Middle had reported hearing another student brag that he had a gun,” Baldwin County Public Schools communications director Terry Wilhite said. “The school went into immediate lockdown.”

Authorities found the bullets on the student while questioning him at the school. However, no firearm was ever discovered.

“The student will be expelled and is in police custody,” Wilhite said, adding that the expelled student will not be allowed to attend another Baldwin County public school.

The student—charged with disorderly conduct—will go before a juvenile court judge to receive sentencing, police said.

“The incident now becomes a matter for the police department and court system,” Daphne Middle School Principal Tripp Oliphant said.
