District 14 zoning vote tally on Web

BAY MINETTE, Ala. — Results of Tuesday’s District 14 planning and zoning election will be available online by early afternoon today, according to Baldwin County Probate Office election officials.

About 6,800 voters in the Central Baldwin County district, located from north of County Road 104 to U.S. 98, were eligible to cast ballots and determine if zoning regulations would be implemented in the rapidly growing area.

Baldwin County Circuit Clerk Jody Campbell, who also serves as the county’s absentee election manager, said she received about 80 ballots, about eight times more than previous planning and zoning referendums.

“I attribute the high number of absentee ballot requests to people being on vacation during the public school’s spring break,” Campbell said.

Ballots were taken to the Probate Office after polls closed Tuesday and will be counted this morning. Unofficial results will be posted later today, but will not include provisional balloting, according to election officials.

Certification of election results will be April 23.

To view election tallies, go to co.baldwin.al.us, click on Probate Office, elections, then Planning and Zoning.

Results also will be available by calling Probate Office staffer Violetta Smith at (251) 937-0285.
