FAIRHOPE — Baldwin County has a new dirty soda shop with Southern Sip opening inside Fairhope's Piggly Wiggly grocery store.

Madi Magallanes co-owns the establishment with April and Pail Kunz. Originally from Salt Lake City, Utah, Magallanes grew up visiting South Alabama visiting family during the summer, and she also grew up drinking dirty sodas.

"I've always grown up drinking them. Same with the Kunz family," Magallanes said. "We've been wanting to open a dirty soda shop out here for a long time. We've looked into Mobile, doing that first in a truck and trailer, but having a brick and mortar store was the only way to go. We were so happy that we were able to start here at The Pig and they allowed us to be here. Now we can also do events that way as well, and so we're just happy to be able to have a brick and mortar but also be able to do both."

Among the drinks, the shop serves its titular "Southern Sip," a classic dirty soda that contains Coca Cola or any dark soda with coconut cream and lime.
Each drink is available in three different sizes: 16 ounces, 24 ounces and 32 ounces.

Along with a selection around 30 different flavors, you can also make your own combination, with different soft drinks and energy drinks, such as Monster, Alani Nu and watermelon Redbull, as a base, along with flavors and add-ons ranging from fruity flavors such as mango, cherry, pineapple and strawberry, to others such as coconut, vanilla and cotton candy. You can also make it dirty by adding coconut or vanilla cream as well as cold foam.

If you are in the mood for a snack, Southern Sip serves pretzel bites, available in both salted and cinnamon sugar flavors.

Southern Sip is open Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., Fridays from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
