Dicie Norman Parker, born Dec. 8, 1948 in Clermont, Fla., died Sunday, Oct. 17, 2010 at her home in Midland, Texas, following a long, courageous battle with kidney failure.

After graduating from high school in Robertsdale, she completed Marine training at Paris Island, S.C. Later she moved to New Mexico where she met and married Jim Parker. Over the years, her diverse careers included working as a cosmetologist, an Albuquerque cab driver, a television engineer, and a caregiver for her aging mother.

She was loyal, loving and protective of all those whom she loved. Her honest demeanor allowed her to love deeply when love was needed — and to correct quickly when correction was needed, especially among her younger sisters. She was the family historian, who never forgot birthdays or other significant dates and events. She valued friendship as a lifelong commitment and was loyal to her many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Brooker and Beulah Chance; and her husband, Jim Parker.

Survivors include a son, Cameron (Jackie) Danfelser of Alburquerque, N.M.; two grandchildren, Brianna and C.J. Danfelser; four sisters, Sarah Imoe of Odessa, Texas, Anne (Clark) Dickson of Odessa, Elizabeth (Dr. Mohsin) Syed of Midland, Texas, and Myrline Chance of Roswell, N.M.; seven nephews, one grand niece and one grand nephew.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23 from the chapel of Frank W. Wilson Funeral Home with Donnie Williams officiating.

The family requests memorial donations be made to the Humane Society, Sumaritan Purse, or Republican National Committee.

Arrangements are by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors, Odessa, Texas.
