Diana Brewer named Mobile Symphony’s acting CEO

The Board of Directors of the Mobile Symphony Orchestra is pleased to announce the appointment of Diana Brewer to acting chief executive officer of the Mobile Symphony.

Brewer joined the staff of the Mobile Symphony in February 2012 as director of marketing. Her appointment as acting CEO follows the recent departure of Gregg Gustafson, the MSO’s chief executive officer for the past two years.

“We are very excited about the opportunity to have someone of Diana’s qualifications lead us in this time of transition,” Jimmie Hatcher, chairman of the MSO Board of Directors, said. “The Board of Directors has been very impressed with the work she has done in marketing the Mobile Symphony since joining the organization. She has elevated our messaging and extended our reach to even more of our community. The most recent performance of the symphony had the best attendance for a regular subscription performance that we have had in some time.”

“Diana’s communication skills with the staff and the board are excellent and her experience in managing a staff will serve her well in this new position,” Hatcher added. “We are delighted that she was willing to step in to this job and we look forward to working with her.”

Prior to joining the Mobile Symphony, Brewer served two years as executive director of the Fairhope Educational Enrichment Foundation (FEEF), reporting to a 25-member board of directors and leading that board’s strategic planning and fund raising efforts to support the Fairhope public schools.

She previously worked 15 years as director of marketing and public relations for Thomas Hospital and two years as director of marketing and community relations for Infirmary Health System after Infirmary Health acquired Thomas Hospital. There, Brewer directed all marketing, public relations, internal and external communications, and community relations strategies for Infirmary Health System and its affiliates. She was also responsible for creating integrated strategies to develop new market share, ensure brand development and maintain media relationships.

A native of Mobile and graduate of the University of South Alabama, Brewer and her family reside in Fairhope where she also holds a seat on the Fairhope City Council.
