Detectives working to identify body found in canal

GULF SHORES, Ala - Gulf Shores Police Department’s detectives are conducting a death investigation after a body was discovered by fishermen in the Intracoastal Waterway this morning.

On July 18, 2015, at around 7:20 a.m., GSPD officers responded to a radio call of a body in the water approximately one mile west of Canal Park.  The Baldwin County Coroner’s Office responded to the location along with GSPD detectives. 

The cause of death could not be determined during the preliminary investigation and the body was taken to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences Laboratory in Mobile for a complete forensic examination. 

According to detectives, the deceased was a male white in his 40’s and his identification will not be released prior to notification of next of kin. 

Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Jason Woodruff at (251) 968-1238.  During non-business hours or on weekends, calls should be directed to (251) 968-2431.  No additional information is expected to be released before 2:00 p.m. on Monday, July 20.
