ROBERTSDALE, Alabama --- After he eluded capture for nearly a week, Derek Wood is back in custody and is being held without bond at the Baldwin County Correction Center.

Wood, the brother of Brittney Wood, who was reported missing in May and last seen in the Styx River area, was arrested July 13 on felony charges of second degree rape and second degree sodomy.

Wood was arrested along with four other family members in an ongoing sexual abuse investigation in Baldwin County.

According to jail records, Wood was released on a $10,000 bond and was scheduled to report to deputies in Bay Minette on Friday, Oct. 12 when he did not show up.

According to a press release issued last week by the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office, Wood’s Court ordered ankle monitor and GPS tracking device showed Wood to be located at his home on Lenardo Drive in Mobile.

Deputies traveled to Wood’s address and found him in a car with a female driver. As deputies attempted stop the car, a short pursuit resulted in the suspect’s car wrecking and Wood fleeing on foot. Deputies later located Wood’s assigned ankle monitor cut off in the weeds.

According to published reports, a total of six arrests have been made in connection with an investigation involving Randall Scott Wood, 42, of Athens, Tenn., and Dustin Alton Kent, 36, of Mobile, who has been arrested twice in the case, and is not related to the May 30 disappearance of 19-year-old Brittney Wood, who is the niece of Randall Wood and Dustin Kent.

Wood was captured through a joint investigation with the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office, Mobile Police Department, U.S. Marshall’s Fugitive Task Force and the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office.

“His capture is a direct result of many hours of hard work and dedication by the men and women of law enforcement,” according to a press release issued Thursday by the BCSO.

Wood turned himself in Thursday morning and is being held without bond at the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Correction Center.
