ROBERTSDALE, Ala. — Area law enforcement officers have had a peaceful and relaxing Thanksgiving holiday this year. Despite the recent increase in police presence on roadways, the number of traffic and drug related offenses has remained considerably low.
During a season usually rife with traffic fatalities, DUIs and speeding tickets, officers expected the usual while preparing for the worst. Some were seemingly surprised at the lack of incidence, though in no way disappointed by it.
“Over the holidays, things were quiet … for once,” Summerdale Police Chief Dwayne Riebling said with a laugh. “Very routine.”
Loxley police were also thankful for a quiet weekend.
“It was really quiet,” said LPD Officer Raymond Lovell. “Thank God for that.”
The word “quiet” seemed to be a recurrent description of this Thanksgiving among law enforcement officers; which is something, in itself, to be very thankful for.
