David T. Whitten, 89, of Orange Beach, passed away Jan. 12, 2015.

He was a United States Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree, longtime member of the Elks Club in Pensacola, retired guidance counselor in the Corning-PP School District in New York for more than 30 years and a substitute teacher in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach for more than 15 years.

Since moving and retiring to Baldwin County with his wife, they served actively in their church and community.

He is survived by his wife, Ella Kenyon Whitten of Orange Beach; two sons, David P. Whitten of Bath, N.Y. and Raymond C. Dell Jr. of Corning, N.Y.; a granddaughter, Rachel Dell (Chris) Gondek of Cleveland, Ohio; a stepson, Chuck H. (Peggy O.) Kenyon Jr. of Orange Beach; a stepdaughter, Meg Kenyon (Mark) Cates of Corning, N.Y.; three step-grandchildren, Charlie H. (Lynn) Kenyon III of Foley, Justin R. Cates of Corning, N.Y. and Jamie K. Cates of Corning, N.Y.; and two step-great-grandchildren, Hunter J. Kenyon of Foley and Fisher E. Kenyon of Foley.

Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Whitten will be said on Friday, Jan. 16, 2015, at noon, from St. Thomas by the Sea Catholic Church in Orange Beach, with Father James Dane officiating.

Visitation will be at the church from 11 a.m. until time the of service.

A graveside services with full military honors will be held Friday, Jan. 16, 2015, at 2 p.m., from Barrancas National Cemetery on NAS Pensacola.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, please give to the Wounded Warriors Foundation, or a charity of your choice.
