David Carroll Thatch, 75, died after a long illness on July 19, 2013.
Born Dec. 24, 1937 in Heidelberg, Miss., he grew up on a farm and upon graduation from Heidelberg High School, he attended Mississippi College at Clinton. He graduated in 1960 with a B.S. in chemistry.
His work tenure was with International Paper Co. in Moss Point, Miss., Allied Chemical in Columbia, S.C. and Hoechst Fibers in Spartanburg, S.C. He retired in 1991 from Hoechst Fibers.
Shortly after retirement he and his wife, Kristine, moved back to Fairhope and a few years later moved to Spanish Fort, where he resided until his death.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Lee Thatch and Mary Elizabeth Privett Thatch.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Kristine Hiley Thatch of Spanish Fort; two sons, David Michael Thatch of Greer, S.C. and Stephen Carroll Thatch of Valpariso, Fla.; two sisters, Betty Thatch Higginbotham of Shreveport, La. and Carmen Jo Thatch Sanders of Keller, Texas. He is also survived by one grandson, Christopher Osborne of Mobile; and one granddaughter, Elizabeth Kristine Thatch of Valpariso, Fla.
Funeral services will be held Monday, July 22, 2013, at 2 p.m., at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home in Daphne. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour before service time.
The body will be cremated at a later date and the ashes placed in Colony Cemetery at Fairhope.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to The Shoulder, P.O. Box 7130, Spanish Fort, AL 36577.
