DAV and RecruitMilitary will co-host the National Virtual Veterans Career Fair Aug. 25, offering veterans, military personnel and their families free access to employers, career resources and employment assistance.
According to a news release, the virtual event will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is open at no cost to veterans, their spouses, active-duty military personnel and members of the National Guard and Reserve.
More than 70 employers seeking to hire veterans will participate, representing industries ranging from construction and medical services to administrative and logistics fields. Available positions will span entry-level jobs through senior management.
Attendees also will have access to career counseling and resume assistance, opportunities to network with fellow veterans and military personnel and support with Department of Veterans Affairs benefits and claims assistance.
DAV plans to sponsor more than 90 in-person and virtual job fairs this year. Since launching its employment initiative in 2014, the organization has recorded nearly 274,000 attendees and more than 167,000 job offers.
In an effort to help employers better understand the value of hiring veterans, DAV developed "The Veteran Advantage: DAV Guide to Hiring and Retaining Veterans with Disabilities" last year. The guide was created to support employers, dispel myths about veterans with disabilities and demonstrate the business case for employing nearly 4 million U.S. veterans with service-connected disabilities.
The guide provides employers with best practices and tools while encouraging more organizations to consider veterans as a source of talent.
Jeremy Yost, DAV's national employment director and a service-disabled Marine veteran, is available to discuss trends in veteran and military spouse hiring, employment-related resources and job opportunities in the Central region and across the country. Interview requests can be made by contacting Yost at (859) 442-2061.
Veterans and their families can register for the National Virtual Veterans Career Fair and access additional no-cost resources at www.jobs.dav.org.
