DAPHNE, Ala.— On July 18, Daphne’s Public Works director, Richard Johnson, unveiled one of the two new recycling trucks that will soon hit the streets of Daphne to pick up residents’ recycling.
The side of the truck is decorated with colorful stickers depicting children partaking in recycling.
Johnson said getting the new trucks was a long process, but thanks to loans from other entities, the city’s recycling program was able to keep running on schedule.
“I did not realize getting recycling trucks is like giving birth. It has been nine months to delivery and it is here, it is a beautiful 20-yard rear loader… Its name is 1375 and its twin brother is called 1376. It will be in operation starting at the end of this week,” Johnson said.
He also said he would like to see the new trucks filled to capacity every day with recyclable materials.
“We have seen an upswing in our recycling … and I want to remind you to put out your bins every recycle day. We take paper, we take plastic, we take cardboard, we take all types of metal, tin, steel, aluminum…” Johnson said.
