Daphne's largest neighborhood to hold Baldwin's largest yard sale

The old saying the early bird gets the worm takes on new meaning Oct. 21-22. Grab your cash, pack a snack and load into your biggest vehicle for the largest yard sale on the Eastern Shore.

The Lake Forest neighborhood in Daphne is often referred to as the largest subdivision in the state of Alabama. Whether that is true or not, there are nearly 3,000 homes and it is the largest on the Eastern Shore.

The Lake Forest Women's Club hosts the annual event. Club member and organizer Eve Gray said the idea for the event came shortly after she moved to Lake Forest from the Atlanta area in 2017.

"I recognized when I moved here that the neighborhood was constantly having individual yard sales and that navigating the 2,900 homes in Alabama's largest subdivision was a challenge for shoppers," Gray said. "I thought why not organize a community yard sale where sellers could benefit from increased traffic on a designated sale weekend that could attract hundreds of shoppers."

The Woman's Club creates a downloadable map of homes participating in the sale. Participating homeowners are asked to donate $2 to be added to the map. The club uses the funds raised from the map to support a nonprofit. This year, they have partnered with The Vir Fortis Foundation which works with military veterans and first responders to help them ease their stress and learn coping mechanisms.

Gray said that 75 to 100 of the 2,900 homes typically participate in the sale. There are more than 50 miles of streets in the subdivision so make sure to download the map.

"Recognizing that the size of our subdivision can be daunting, I publish a downloadable make on over 20 social media sites that show all the information about the seller's sale. This year many sellers will be accepting Cash App payments," Gray said.

Gray went on to say that the spring sale was such a success that most participants were sold out by the end of Saturday with residents reporting $500 to $900 in sales.

"Come early, stay hydrated, park safely, observe the neighborhood speed limit of 25 miles per hour and make reasonable offers. Have fun and use the map," Gray said.

The Lake Forest Community Yard sale is Friday, Oct. 21 and Saturday, Oct. 22 from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. To view the map visit www.shorturl.at/bdhBE.
