MOBILE, Alabama — The McGill-Toolen Catholic Yellow Jackets left more men on base than Daphne, but they got more home as well. The Jackets took a 4-0 semifinal shutout win over the Trojans in the Mobile BayBears High School Classic tournament at Hank Aaron Stadium Saturday night.

McGill-Toolen was set to play the winner of the Faith Academy vs. Spanish Fort semifinal Monday for the 16th annual BayBears Classic championship at 8 p.m.

Scores from Monday’s games will be reported in a later print edition and posted online at gulfcoastnewstoday.com.

Earlier Saturday, the Baker Hornets knocked off defending BayBear Classic champion Fairhope 2-1. The Pirates had won the tournament four-straight years.

A three-hour rain delay led to the postponement of the Foley vs. Theodore game until Monday at 3 p.m.

In the McGill-Toolen-Daphne semifinal, Nathan Skipper got the win for the Jackets going the distance and withstanding a late comeback situation by the Trojans with the tying and winning runs in scoring positions in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Mc-T right-hander struck out six while Stephen Williams took the loss with James Reyner closing for DHS.

Reyner had a double for the Trojans who exited the tournament at 3-1 with earlier wins over MGM, Cottage Hill and Theodore and who outscored opponents 23-9 to earn the semifinal berth. The Jackets 4-0 allowed seven total runs in their preliminary wins over Mobile Christian, Alma Bryant and UMS-Wright.

In the Baker-Fairhope match-up Tyler Atchison got the 2-1 win for the Hornets with just two innings of mid-inning work giving up the only Fairhope run, a solo homer over the right-field wall by Pirate left-fielder Dre Chaney.

Baker took an early lead off two-hits and two FHS miscues before Chaney cut the lead in half in the fourth inning with his line-drive shot.

Corey Childress took the loss for the Pirates, tossing seven strike outs, one walk and scattering eight hits over six innings.

The Pirates loaded the bases in the top of the seventh inning but could not get the tying or go-ahead score across.

Lukas Young got the save for BHS with bat support from Brett Glover Forrest Anderson, Mason McCullough, T.J. Hearn, Chad Luse and Connor Albano.

Except for Chaney, Fairhope stranded hitters Dylan Thomas, who singled twice while Childress, Beecher Faust, Jerrod Hathcock, William Roh, Sam Sundbeck and Joey Wirtes each singled.
