Daphne Trojans beat Robertsdale 43-6

DAPHNE, Ala. — The Daphne Trojans took another step towards a region championship Friday night when they mauled the visiting Golden Bears of Robertsdale by a score of 43-6 at Jubilee Stadium in Daphne.

With the win the Trojans improve their overall record to 5-2 but more importantly they keep their undefeated regional record intact at 5-0; setting up an enormous matchup against arch-rival Fairhope next week which will all but secure the region for the victor of the Jubilee Cup.

The Trojans put themselves in this favorable position after the convincing win over the Bears. The game featured a Trojan offense that had many playmakers that made some big plays through the air.

“We were able to throw the ball early and that got us out to the big lead,” Trojan head coach Glenn Vickery said. “Robertsdale did a good job at stopping the run (early) so we tried to find a way to score and we went to the pass. It was one of those nights when the passing game picked up the running game. Good teams have to do that at times.”

Those pass plays for the Trojans came in big numbers all night. Starting quarterback Zach Morgan connected on touchdown passes of 65, 54, and 37 yards all before he was pulled at halftime.

On the night he totaled just under 200 yards on just eight passes.

The Trojans scored on their first 5 possessions of the game giving their defense more than enough cushion to secure the easy win for Daphne.

The Trojans suffocating defense held the Bears Offense at bay the entire evening, holding the bears to a single touchdown.

“Our defense played really well, all the coaches did a really good job and had a great plan for them,” Vickery said. “Robertsdale had some players missing but we knew we had our hands full and our defense played hard early.”

All season long goal one for Vickery and the Trojans was to secure the 6A Region 1 crown. They would all but secure that with a victory next week over the Pirates.

“It’s always a big game, it’s Fairhope and Daphne. It is always a big game regardless of the record. Next week could be for the region championship,” Vickery said.

The Trojans matchup against Head Coach Adam Winegarden and the Fairhope Pirates next Friday night; Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at W.C. Majors field in Fairhope.
