DAPHNE, Ala.— Daphne City Councilman Bailey Yelding asked his peers to nominate a resident from his or her district to serve on a 12-member advisory board under the Public Works Committee.
“We want to activate our environmental advisory committee, which is under the Public Works department. That ordinance was established in 2007. We want to activate that committee, and by doing so we want to ask each council person to submit a person from their district to represent on that committee,” Yelding said.
Two city council members are required to be on the committee, along with 10 members from the community. Yelding asked each council member to send in their recommendations by the the first meeting in August.
Yelding said the new committee will function much like the city’s beautification committee once the committee is populated.
“We will have 10 issues that are important environmentally. We want them to come up with the top 10 things that are important to the city,” Yelding said.
The committee’s goals will include recycling, environmental project funding and serving as a regulatory council to the public works committee.
