DAPHNE, Ala.—A good ACT score is a necessity for high-school students to get into the school of their choice and is a factor that determines who gets academic achievement scholarships.
Andre LaPalme, a teacher at Daphne High School, is offering classes to help students obtain the highest score they can by preparing them for the test.
“The ACT is a vital part of the college admissions puzzle,” LaPalme said. “It gives colleges a snapshot not only of a student’s potential academically but also how they can solve difficult problems under stress and time constraints. These classes offer a typical student a way to ‘focus and see’ the ACT in a new light. If they can understand how the test is constructed they can take it apart.”
LaPalme said the sessions will focus on all four areas of the ACT including science, reading comprehension, math and English.
The classes will be held at 8 a.m. on March 26 and April 2 in LaPalme’s classroom. The preparation sessions usually last for four Satudays, but LaPalme said this year the sessions have been cut down because of scheduling conflicts.
The cost for the classes is $50 and each participant will receive an ACT study guide worth $22, LaPalme said.
Students can register until the first session begins on March 26. For more information about the classes or to register contact LaPalme at alapalme@bcbe.org.
