Daphne Public Library will forgive fines April 11-16

DAPHNE, Ala.—Tonya Young, director of the Daphne Public Library, said people are often hesitant to bring overdue items back, but it is never too late to do so.

The library offers fine forgiveness twice a year and Young said next week’s amnesty is part of the library’s celebration of National Library Week. Young said the library will also have some exhibits for the celebration and the library staff is preparing to kick off the summer reading program.

“National Library Week is kind of the kickoff to our summer events,” Young said.

Anyone who has an overdue item can either return it in the outside drop box next week or bring it in to the library and either way the fines on their library card will be cleared, Young said.

The library’s previous fine forgiveness programs have been successful, Young said.

“Often, we do get things that come back. Books are funny things — they can get hidden or misplaced. Sometimes people will find it and feel it is too late to bring it back. The items we get returned helps the library stay within its budget,” Young said.
