Daphne PD promotes seven officers

DAPHNE — The Daphne Police Department on June 14 promoted three officers.

Officer Tobias Pearce was promoted to detective.

Pearce started with the department as a corrections officer in 2003. He tested for and was transferred to the patrol division in December 2004. Pearce will fill a vacancy in the detective division. He serves on the department’s Special Response Team and is married with three children.

Cpl. Brian Hollinghead was promoted to sergeant in the patrol division.

Hollinghead was hired in 1997 as a patrolman. He was promoted to corporal in 2005.

Hollinghead transferred over to the detective division in April before testing and attaining the rank of sergeant most recently. Hollinghead is married with one child.

Officer Tim Birt was promoted to corporal in the patrol division.

Birt was hired in 1998 as a patrolman. He has served in that division since his hire.

Birt serves on the department Special Response Team, and is a basic instructor in OC Aerosol, Specialty Impact Munitions, Distraction Devices, and Chemical Munitions.

Birt is married and has two children.

In May, four officers were promoted.

Those promoted to lieutenant were Alaric Yelding, who has been with the department for 14 years; and Kenneth Hempfleng, who has 18 years of service with Daphne and 2.5 years with Prichard Police Department.

Promoted to patrol sergeant was Ronald Gibney, who has 14 years of service with the department.

Promoted to patrol corporal was Jason Vannoy, who has six years with the department and was recently an investigator.

Other promotions that took place recently include Daniel Bell to the rank of captain. He now oversees the field operations section of the department.

Bell was recently the detective lieutenant and has been with the department for 13 years.

Judson Beedy was promoted to lieutenant over detectives. He has been with the department for 12 years.

William (Ken) Lassiter was promoted to patrol sergeant and has been with the department for 10 years.

Promoted to patrol corporal were Michael Merritt, who has been with the department five years, and David Smith, who has been with the department for six years.

Joseph Taylor was promoted to investigator and he has been with the department for four years.

All officers promoted were presented with a certificate and their badges by Chief David Carpenter in a ceremony held at the Daphne Police Department.
