On Saturday, Oct. 29, the Daphne AFJROTC unit AL-935 competed in the Gulf Breeze Drill Meet along with 17 other schools across the Gulf Coast. Daphne competed against these schools in events such as the armed color guard, unarmed color guard, armed regulation, and unarmed regulation.
Among the teams, the unarmed color guard placed in their event. Their placement was third in the final rankings. Hopefully, it will start a new era of winning.
Commanded by Daphne sophomore Cadet 2Lt Lauren Nebe, the winning team consisted of DHS juniors Samantha Klipsch and Katherine Hirst and DHS sophomore Stephanie Blaine. Through dedication and hard work, these girls earned a third place trophy. They practiced multiple days a week for many weeks leading up to the event.
Daphne’s Corps Commander Isaiah C. Farnell also won an individual award. He competed in an unarmed individual drill routine or IDR competition. Going against a dozen other students in the final round, Farnell won first place.
Motivated by the Unarmed Color Guard and fellow cadet Farnell, the Daphne Drill Team hopes for better results in the next drill meet. This meet is in New Orleans on November 5, a week following the Gulf Breeze Drill Meet.
