Daphne Council authorizes waiving of fees for Jan. 17 Martin Luther King festivities

DAPHNE, Ala.—The Daphne City Council authorized Mayor Fred Small on Monday to waive all fees associated with the Martin Luther King Committee’s march and program at the Daphne Civic Center on Jan. 17, Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Usually, clean-up and labor fees are around $500 and rental fees are around $900, but the council waived both fees for the occasion.

“I feel this is justifiable for being waived,” Councilman Bailey Yelding said. “Don’t let that nickel-and-dime sway us.”

Small said that the city would always waive the rental fees for the Civic Center.

The council agenda stated that in past years, the march and program had all Civic Center-use fees waived.
