DAPHNE, Ala.—The Daphne City Council at Monday’s meeting unanimously approved the building of a Centennial Park gazebo, which will cost around $15,000, according to Beautification Committee member Dorothy Morrison.
The cost includes a concrete slab, electric work and the gazebo itself.
“The Beautification Committee has been working on getting a gazebo for about a year,” Morrison said. “It gets so hot in the summer.”
Morrison said the gazebo would be approximately 20 to 22 feet in diameter and it should take around a month to build once construction begins.
“We’re hoping for it to be completed by summer,” Morrison said.
Councilman Ron Scott wanted to state for the record that if anyone thought the gazebo project took priority over the bathroom project in Park City Park, the latter “is in the works.” The city plans to remove portable toilets and install permanent bathrooms.
“We got an update from (Public Works Director Richard Johnson),” Councilman August Palumbo said about the Park City park project. “The plans are in place. The funds are there, and we don’t need an appropriation.
