Daphne community gathers for local child's birthday party after no one shows up

No one showed up to his birthday party, so the Daphne community came out to celebrate with him.

Vicki Workman and her son, Kyler, were at the Daphne Sports Complex on Sunday, Dec. 14, to throw a party to celebrate Kyler's birthday. According to Vicki, they had planned it beforehand and had sent out invitations a week prior. Although the weather outside got colder, they still went to the park in case people came out.

The party was supposed to begin at 1:30 p.m., but by 2 p.m., nobody showed up, even after they had already set everything up and her husband brought pizza.

"My son kept kind of looking up at the parking lot anytime a car came to see if it was a friend of his, and it wasn't, and I could see he was getting really sad," Vicki recalled.

As a last ditch effort, Vicki made a Facebook post explaining the situation and asking if anyone could come out to celebrate Kyler's birthday.

Soon after, around 50 people from the local community showed up, including both adults and children his age, to celebrate. The majority of them were complete strangers.

Vicki's efforts ended up being a success. She said that Kyler has already received invitations for play dates and she has received friend requests on Facebook from parents. She thanked everyone who showed up that day, with Kyler saying it was the best birthday he has ever had.

"It definitely shows that people in this community look out for each other, especially when it's a child that is in need or needs something solved," Vicki said. "It definitely showed me that this place is very special and the people that live here are very special."
