Daphne Civic center prepares for sixth annual ballroom dance

DAPHNE, Ala.— A “Southern Garden Party”-themed ballroom dance evening will take over the Daphne Civic Center on April 15, Margaret Thigpen, civic center director, said.

Thigpen said everyone, even ballroom beginners, should come out for the event.

“It is unique to this side of the bay and it is great fun being able to ballroom-dance to a very fabulous band such as the Debbi Bailes Band,” Thigpen said. “There is a strong following of those who have been doing ballroom dancing for years, but there are some who are still learning or haven’t perfected it at these events. It is a good mix.”

Dress for the bring-your-own-beverage event should be semi-formal or formal, Thigpen said.

The band is supposed to play three sets, which will make the event last from 7 p.m. to around 10 p.m. Thigpen said.

Tickets go on sale March 15 for $15 per person or $150 for a table of 10. Once a ticket is purchased, refunds are not available. Tickets can be purchased at the civic center and cash and checks are acceptable payments. If purchasing tickets by mail a $2 shipping and handling fee, or a SASE should be included.

The event is a production of the Daphne Civic Center with proceeds going back to fund the next event.

Thigpen hopes the event in April will bring around 300 dancers.
