Daphne City Council members and the city's mayor will see a salary increase after the 2025 election.
During a council meeting Nov. 6, members unanimously voted in favor of raising the salaries for all city council seats as well as the mayor.
Council will see a $2,000 salary increase, while the mayor will see a $50,000 salary increase annually.
According to Councilman Ron Scott, it is overdue. He said in his 19 years of serving on council that there has only been one salary adjustment for the mayor, and that was 16 years ago.
"I think the optics make it look like a pretty big raise, but we should have done something in the past. I feel we will now compensate fairly the office of mayor of Daphne, whoever that shall be at the next term," Scott said. "It is certainly deserving when you have an organization with a $53 million budget and over 300 employees. It is quite a responsibility."
The part-time city council members elected in 2025 will see salaries go from $13,000 to $15,000 a year. The council vice president's salary is currently $14,200 and will go up to $16,200. The council president's salary will go from $17,000 to $19,000.
The mayor will receive a salary of $125,000. Currently, the position pays $75,000.
