Daphne High School track and field competitors Jacob Kirschenbaum (right) and Kyle Smith (left) qualified for the USATF Junior Olympic Regionals last week in Birmingham.
The duo are in Port Allen, La., this week for the USA Track and Field Junior Olympics.
Smith qualified with a gold medal in the javelin and the shot put, and a silver in the discus.
Kirschenbaum placed second for a silver in the discus. Jacob Kirschenbaum took a silver medal in the discus event at Mountain Brook High School last week.
The national Jr. Olympic Championships are set for July 24-29 in Walnut, Calif., in Hilmer Lodge Stadium at San Antonio College.
Over 6,000 athletes are expected to compete on the USATF National Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships.
Entry for this championship is based on athlete performances at preliminary, Association, and Regional levels of the 2007 USATF Junior Olympic Program.
