Daphne approves drainage repairs in Lake Forest community

Daphne City Council approved resolutions for drainage repair in the Lake Forest subdivision during its meeting on Monday, May 18.

The drainage repairs will take place at 600 Ridgewood Drive in the Lake Forest community. A bid for the repairs was posted by the city on April 8, seeking to repair "eroded outfall area by replacing existing damaged pipes, creating a rip-rap plunge pool for energy dissipation and armoring the existing outfall channel with riprap to prevent future erosion." The repairs also include the replacement of the upstream storm infrastructure along with improvements to the surrounding site for proper stormwater conveyance.

Daphne Mayor Robin LeJeune told GCM that city officials believe the damage to the drainage originated from last year's heavy rainfall and flooding that hit the area, saying the measure was fast-tracked due to how bad the damage was.

According to documents, the total cost of the project is $450,847. The repairs were not anticipated during the budget process, so an appropriation from the city's general fund was made to cover the costs.
