Daniel Edward Bauer, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away quietly at home on Dec. 3, 2012, surrounded by his family.
Mr. Bauer was born in Summerdale, on Nov. 25,1929. He loved farming with his family. He graduated from Foley High School in Foley in 1948. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. In 1954, he married the love of his life, Vivian Mercer (formerly of Birmingham. He went on to work for the Federal Aviation Administration for more than 25 years. His worked carried him to the University of Oklahoma and to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia to teach Air Traffic Control. After retirement, he and Vivian spent a lot of time with their three grandchildren and enjoyed the quiet life they shared. He was a man of strong character and convictions. He was adored by his family and friends. He loved being outdoors, spending time with his grandkids, and Alabama football. He will be deeply missed and forever loved. Bauer was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Margaret Bauer, his brother Joseph, sister Dorothy and his granddaughter, Crimson Elaina Hill. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Vivian Mercer Bauer; his three daughters, Laura Bauer from Americus, Ga.; Fran Bauer (Jon Ramsden) from Apalachicola, Fla., and Pat Hill (Mark) from Pace, Fla., and his grandchildren, Michelle Ramsden, Lindsay and Jeff Russell, and Zachary Hill. He is also survived by his sister, brother and many cousins. Many thanks to his wonderful caregivers, Sarah, Cyndi, Tracy, Jen, and Chasity. They have become like family to us this year. Family will receive guests at Lewis Funeral Home in Pace, Florida from 9-9:30 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 7, 2012. Services will begin promptly at 9:30 a.m. and interment will follow immediately at Barrancas National Cemetery aboard NAS Pensacola. Friends and family are welcome to visit with the family for light lunch after services at the First United Methodist Church on Chumuckla Highway in Pace, Florida. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations made in Bauer's memory to Covenant Hospice of Milton, Florida.
