Command Sgt. Maj. Shelton Jim Daffron, 70, of Lillian, died Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at his home in Lillian.
He was a member of the Lillian Baptist Church. He retired from the U.S. Army as a command sergeant major, serving two tours in Vietnam with over 20 years of active service and was a drill sergeant. He received the Bronze Star, the Silver Star, two Purple Hearts and was wounded in combat.
Survivors include his wife, Joan Gates Daffron of Lillian; five daughters, Debra Daffron Parker of Trinity, N.C., Sharon Renee Daffron of Sanford, Fla., and Emily Elizabeth Daffron of Mobile; two sons, Michael Daffron of Hopewell, Va., and Jonathan Andrew Daffron of Decatur; two step-daughters, Sherry Ann White of Pensacola, Fla., and Shlynn White Curry of Hazel Green; two sisters, Jewell Dean Holland of Chicago, and Betty Jean Hallmark of Carbonhill; eight grandchildren and one step-grandchild.
Visitation and funeral services with full military honors were held Thursday, March 11 at the Naval Aviation Memorial Chapel, NAS Pensacola, Fla., with the Rev. William Allison officiating. Burial followed at Barrancas National Cemetery.
The family requests memorial donations be made to the Veterans Association of America.
