GULF SHORES, Ala. — The Pleasure Island business community will gain valuable insight into the 2009 travel market as the Alabama Gulf Coast Convention and Visitors Bureau hosts its annual Tourism Summit.
Set for May 19 at the Erie H. Meyer Civic Center in Gulf Shores, the summit will begin at 8 a.m. and should conclude around 1 p.m.
Centering on a market research theme, this year’s event features a diverse perspective on the latest trends and technology in the travel industry.
Jim Jager, president of New South Research, will share the results of surveys and focus groups that he conducted on area visitors.
Afterward, Heather Dougherty of Hitwise plans to discuss the online travel research trends and the impact of social marketing and user-generated content.
Then, Herb Malone, president and CEO of the CVB, will shed some light on the latest local statistics and trends. Finally, Lee Sentell, director of the Alabama Tourism Department, is the keynote lunch speaker and will share the state’s latest marketing efforts.
