Currey~Hand

Elizabeth Clay Currey and Jonathan Albert Hand were united in marriage at 6 p.m. Saturday, May 24, 2008 at Jakyll Island Club Hotel, Jekyll Island, Ga.

The bride is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Robert Brownlee Currey of Selma. She is the granddaughter of Robert Brownlee Currey of Selma, the late Mr. and Mrs. Warren Vermal Stojcich of Mobile and the late Dr. and Mrs. Joseph Clyde Walker.

She is a graduate of Converse College in Spartanburg, S.C., where she received her Bachelor of Arts in business administration. She is employed as an assistant to the Chief of Staff for U.S. Sen. Jeff Sessions of Alabama.

The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Perry Albert Hand of Gulf Shores. He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. O.B. Hunt of Heflin, Mr. and Mrs. J.N. Hand of Heflin.

He is a graduate of Huntingdon College in Montgomery, where he received a Bachelor of Arts in business administration with a minor in marketing. He is employed as senior legislative assistant to U.S. Rep. Jo Bonner of Alabama.

The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a strapless Italian silk taffeta goan with a fitted bodice of tucks and a modified princess skirt. Her gown was complemented by an heirloom cathedral length veil.

Sophia Hunt Barkan and Molly Mercer Barkan, nieces of the bridegroom, of Mountain Brook served as flower girls. They wore hand-sewn heirloom dresses of white imported Swiss batiste with accented puffing, French lace inserts and beading that the bride wore in weddings as a child.

Following the ceremony, the parents of the bride hosted a sit down dinner at the Cherokee Cottage.

After a honeymoon trip to Peter Island, British Virgin Islands, the couple reside in Washington, D.C.
