Edward Newton “Ed” Crooms, 83, a native of Wilkinson County, Ga., and a resident of Bay Minette, died Saturday, March 27, 2010.
He did ministerial work for the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Over the years he had worked at Monroe Electric Company Warren Robbins Air Force Base, Hubert Chalk Mine and had done general home repairs. He also did jail ministries for the City of Bay Minette and was a volunteer fire fighter for the Bay Minette Fire Department; was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in World War II; and was in the Lord’s Army from 1945-2010.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rabun Layaffette Crooms and Priscilla Pearl Beck Crooms; four children, Glen Edward Crooms, Teresa Lane Avant, David Newton Crooms and Dewayne Monroe Crooms; three brothers, one sister; cousins, Sweet Sweet Cousin Teen and Chester Sapp and many memories since “93”; cousin Jenny and Ed McDonald and Julian Byrd; a number of nieces and nephews.
Survivors include his wife, Amelia Franelich Crooms of Bay Minette; sister, Cara Crooms Young of Macon, Ga.; two step-children, Michlle (Lloyd) Connell of Bay Minette and Bernard Mack Torres of New Orleans; four grandchildren, Jason Wayne Silva, Jennifer Lane Silva, Jamey Moore and Babbette Elizabeth Crooms; two step-grandchildren, Brandi Nicole Parker and Cameron Nicholas Connell; and one step-granddaughter, Scarlett Leigh Parker.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 31 from the chapel of Norris Funeral Home. Burial followed at Bay Minette Cemetery.
